Summer Reading Program kicks off to Build a Better Community @ the Library
The Summer Reading Program Kickoff party was held Friday morning, June 16 with 46 attending the program with our guest presenter Monty Harper. Mr. Harper entertained children and adults with a variety of songs and activities to inspire children to read throughout the summer.
The Summer Reading Program activities will continue each Friday with children checking their mailboxes in the old card catalog. Inside will be activities, prizes or games to encourage the children to read through the summer. The first activity will be an About Me Poster the children will fill out and decorate and return to the Library. Other activities will include a Scavenger Hunt in July, a memory game also in July, Firefighter straws, bookmarks, and notepads and pencils.
With the theme of Building a Better Community children are encouraged to donate items from their home to several local organizations by bringing the items to the Library. Items being collected include stuffed animals for DHS foster children, books for the Library, clothes and toys for the Community Thrift Store, non-perishable food items for the God and People Food Pantry, change for the Chosen House and greeting cards for residents of the local nursing home. wrap up with our End of Summer Party from 9:30-11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4.
